Independent Consultant (1998 - Present)

Forensic Firearms Examiner - Since 1998, I've conducted independent examination and evaluation in hundreds of Firearms and Toolmark related cases using recognized analytical techniques.

ervices provided:

Retained as a member of a shooting reconstruction team which traveled to Abu Dhabi, UAE investigating injuries to United Arab Emirates military personnel assigned to Iraq.

Examination of firearms and shooting related evidence,
 research scientific information, gather facts and prepare forensic reports and assist counsel with trial preparation and presentation.

Provided professional assistance and/or expert testimony in criminal and civil cases of murder, assault and weapons possession in
New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Delaware, Maryland, Kansas and Florida.

Retained as a forensic consultant by the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team providing forensic assistance used for the investigation of uncovered mass graves in El Salvador.

Provided scientific experimentation, forensic examination and case preparation for litigation involving injuries involving a number of paint ball markers.

Conducted field testing and professional evaluation for firearms related product development.

Provided forensic testing and evaluation for product liability in accidental shootings involving firearms and paint ball markers.

Retained as a forensic consultant in criminal and civil litigation pertaining to police involved shootings in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Texas, Maryland and Virginia.

Shooting Reconstructions - Conducted forensic reviews of reported circumstances surrounding shooting cases providing scientific examination of physical evidence to establish how an incident occurred related to police involved shootings, unintentional discharges and gunshot injuries.

Services provided:

Retained as a forensic consultant by attorneys representing both plaintiffs and defendants in firearms related injury cases in both New York and New Jersey.

Retained as an autonomous consultant in police involved shooting incidents in New York, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and Texas.

Retained as a consultant by a number of private individuals to review and analyze questionable shootings resulting in the injury or death of family members. 

Court appointed as a forensic expert in numerous criminal defense cases where shooting reconstruction determined the validity of witness statements and police investigations.

Conducted investigations of shooting incidents involving homes, offices, multi-family dwellings, public  property and motor vehicles using ballistic trajectory rod analysis.

Evaluated crime scene reports, forensic documents, internal police investigations and witness statements associated with both criminal prosecutions and civil litigation.

orensic Training Consultant

Provided instruction and created training programs in firearms identification and operability, moot courtroom techniques and microscopic analysis of ballistic evidence.

Services provided:

Retained in 2007 by the City of Philadelphia Police Department as a Firearms Consultant/Training Coordinator responsible for creating two training courses of instruction in firearms operability, moot courtroom instruction and microscopic analysis of shooting evidence.

Successfully trained twelve (12) City of Philadelphia Police Officers and Civilian Examiners in the fields of firearms operability and microscopic analysis of shooting evidence.

Retained from 2001 through 2005, by the New York City Police Department Laboratory as a Forensic Consultant/Training Coordinator.

Created three separate training courses used to instruct thirty (30) detectives, police officers and civilian examiners related to firearms operability, moot courtroom instruction and microscopic analysis.

Personally compiled an extensive forensic training manual, reviewed by ASCLD/LAB and adopted by the NYPD Laboratory Firearms Analysis Section in 2004.

Created and administered both competency and proficiency tests to a large number of NYPD firearm examiners according to ASCLD/LAB standards.

Served as a member of the Forensic Advisory Group to the Director of the NYPD Laboratory assisting the New York City Police Department Laboratory in attaining and maintaining a professional level of standards in strict accordance with the ASCLD/LAB requirements for accreditation.

Retained by the Rockland County District Attorneys Office as a Forensic Instructor, Firearms Consultant and Firearms Examiner/Microscopist effectively training eight (8) members of the Rockland County Sheriff?s Department in the fields of firearm operability, testing and identification.

NYPD Ballistics Squad (1989 - 1998) Assigned as a Police Officer and promoted to Detective in this unit, my professional experience included the following:

Firearms operability testing and m
icroscopic examination of shooting related evidence received in more than 12,000 assigned cases.

Testified as an Expert Witness in 550 trial cases in three United States Federal Court Districts and New York City Supreme, Criminal & Family Courts in all five boroughs of the city.

Participated in forensic investigations of shooting related cases working with members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, Drug Enforcement Agency, New York State Police and a number of Police Departments and Detective Units in the region.

Trained and lectured to detectives, police officers, attorneys and  a wide variety of laboratory visitors from around the world.

Assisted a number of authors, writers and journalists in researching or preparing television drama, novels, screenplays and articles relating to firearms, assassinations and shootings.
